Description

Asset life extension ensuring fitness for service of the ageing offshore equipment is a challenging effort that all operators are engaged in. Among various facilities, flexible pipes and risers require attention due to complexities of their design and environment in which they operate. Major capital projects choose flexible pipes for their superior dynamic performance and flexibility in field architecture development as well as ease and short time of installation. Currently, there are over 18,000 km of flexible pipes installed in different offshore assets around the world. A comprehensive program was recently completed after 4 consecutive years in an industry joint program in which multiple major operators and technology suppliers evaluated the performance of commercially available (as well as those in final development stage) of an array of 12 inspection technologies (such as UT, Eddy Current, EM, Radiography, CT etc.) for flexible pipes. This has been the first time in industry that such comprehensive and methodical effort on the subject has taken place. In this presentation an overview of the 4-year program and the results of qualification tests will be shared.
